Hugh Hamilton Wines in Australia’s McLaren Vale region is run by one of Australia’s oldest wine families with more than 180 years of experience and knowledge in winemaking. It is the best place for exceptional wines and exciting new adventures. In 1837, Richard Hamilton came to a new colony in South Australia and planted the first vines in Australia. Hugh Hamilton and Mary Hamilton, his daughter, are the fifth and sixth generations of the celebrated Hamilton wine family.
Vineyards and their Cellar
Hugh winery has a unique vision of winemaking, and Mary is the CEO of the winery. She brings great talent, hard work, and energy to the winery. Their vineyards are in some of the best places in the region. The Cellar vineyard is south of their cellar door with the Biscay Clay soil. To the east of their cellar is their Church vineyard while in the north-eastern McLaren Vale region is their Black Sheep vineyard. All the family traditions and values are incorporated into the work done at the vineyards and in the cellar.
Grape Varieties
Shiraz, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Saperavi, Merlot, Mourvedre, Sangiovese, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Pedro Ximenez, and Muscat grape varietals grow in their vineyards. These grapes are used to make their famous red, white, rose, sparkling, and fortified wines. Hugh Hamilton’s cellar door is the perfect place to enjoy their wines in the company of their friendly staff.
